Hi Everybody,

today I would like tell you some information about Christmas time in Czech Republic. Our preparations start aproximately 4 weeks before Christmas Eve, which we celebrate on 24th December. This period we call Advent and every Sunday we lit a candle on the Advent wreath. During this time mums and grandmums bake Christmas sweets (f. e. crescent rolls – vanilkové rohlíčky) and decorate flat in the spirit of Christmas.

Christmas Eve

Every family celebrate this evening in the different way. At our place we decorate the Christmas tree one day before the Christmas Eve and the day after we relax only. On the evening we eat traditional fish soup, breaded carp or traditional “wine” sausage with potato salad. After dinner we make Czech folk customs as pouring lead into water, cutting apple or throwing of shoe. On the end we unwrap present near the Christmas tree and listen Christmas carols.

We halve apple perpendicularly to stalk. When you find stars made from core you will have happiness.

Single girls throw shoe over the head. When front of shoe show to the door girl will marry and leave the home.

Food festival

Hello our readers,

Today, we would like to approach Prague from a different view.. In Prague there aint just  high schools and the problems connected with schools. In Prague we have a lot of  beautiful sights and everyone who visit our capital city have to see them, but we'll tell you something about food festivals. It is an another kind of entertainment then sightseeing . Everybody likes food and fun, isn‘t it right? Food festivals is the place where you can  taste the cuisine of the country.  In Prague you can find a lot of food festival like: Beer festival, Burger Fest, the Asia Food Festival, RawFest, the Street Food Festival. And the  place where the most of the festivals are held, is called Náplavka. Náplavka is situated on the South of Tančící dům. Now, we will descripe two of these festivals for you. Středomořský festival

This festival takes place in Prague at the shopping center Palladium. The date is usually from  1. to 4. September. We can taste the food of Greece, Italy, Spain and France. There's many exhibitors.  We highly recommend this Festival, becouse  we were there. We really liked and had so much fun. There was a friendly atmosphere and if you are wine lover, we have a great news for you. They have a really great wine. Photo as proof.

PRAGUE FOOT FESTIVAL

The main motto of festival is "Don‘t eat, drink or live bad". If you like good drink, eat or if you like livestyle, this is the best place for you. I visit this festival every year and really like it. On this place you can find many international cuisine and restaurants. Concretely the number of cuisine and restaurant is 20. Vegetarian or italian foot isn‘t exception. Every year so many people visit this place just for drinking alcohol. Me and my friends drink only vine, because it is the best alcohol, which you can drink to some meal. To the end i would like to show you some Picture from the festival.

Sports in Prague

Are you into sports? We would like to give you some tips about places where you can visit and watch your favourite sport and tell you something about proffessional sports clubs in Prague.

Football is the most popular sport in the world. In Prague are four teams which play the top league. The most popular team is AC Sparta Praha. Sparta has stadium at Letná. But if you want to visit some match you should hurry up because Sparta will play only one home match before winter pause. Other Prague football clubs are Slavia Praha (the biggest rival of Sparta) which has stadium at Vršovice, Bohemians and Dukla Praha. Dukla is traditional czech army sport club and also has many proffessional teams, sprotsmen and athletes in other sports (like atletics, handball, volleyball...) Dukla has stadium at Juliska it´s near to the Dejvice.

Ice hockey is very popular sport in Prague. A few years ago, there were two rivals in czech top hockey league also named Sparta and Slavia. But this season Slavia plays only second czech hockey league, so Sparta doesn´t have any rival in Prague. Sparta plays home matches in O2 Arena at Vysočany (near the metro station Českomoravská)

If you like basketball, you can visit USK Praha´s matches. They have men and women team in the best czech leagues. USK has arena in park Folimanka.

In Prague are many other teams which play other sports. For example Floorball, Volleyball, Handball...

Leisure activities in Prague

 we want to advise you some free time tips.

I think that everyone loves cinemas and movies. In Prague there are a lot of small single-screen theaters, but there's also a multiplex cinemas with several halls and richer program. In small cinemas you can buy tickets at the cash desk only, but in a larger theater can be used in addition to the cash desk with their website and buy tickets online or book tickets at least. If it is a blockbuster surely it recommend to do at least a few hours in advance. I think the nearest multiplex cinema from the school is in Prague 5 Anděl. It's a moment from the school by tram or subway and you'll find there even 2 multiplex cinemas, CineStar and CinemaCity at the same place. These compenies have branches in more locations of Prague so you can check their websites and choose the best for you.

And the second think what we want to introduce you is the project ,,Z pokoje do pokoje". This is a non-profit company and workshop whose aim is to provide people from second-hand furniture at reasonable prices. It's a great idea for people who love DIY and don´t have a garage or workshop, where they had the opportunity to repair furniture. Z pokoje do pokoje offers workshop and tools. You can also take courses for improvement, where you will spend time with an experienced joiners and teach you how to fix a chair or table for example. Or if you love retro and you are looking for such furniture, you can come buy ready-made. Will you move out or renovate apartment? Do you know that you'll want to throw away old furniture? Just call someone from Z pokoje do pokoje and they come to you and take old furniture. And then they will correct it by himself. This workshop is just outside the metro station Florenc.

We are sure  you already found out that Prague is a wonderful city full of beautiful places and historical monuments. So we decided to give you some useful information about Prague and the best Prague’s places of interest.

First of all, we want to tell you some basic information about  Prague.

Prague is a lovely city with rich history. You definitely know that Prague is the capital and the largest city of the Czech Republic. It is one of the most importatnt city in our country because it is the centre of the industry, tourism, business, political life etc. It is also seat of  the President. Prague occupies an area of almost 500 square kilometres and it has 1.2 million inhabitants.

And now some places of interest

The Charles Bridge

The Charles Bridge is an historic bridge that crosses the Vltava river. It was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and other areas. Now is the most visited place in Prague.

Saint Nicholas Church

 The Church of Saint Nicholas is a Baroque church in the Lesser Town of Prague. It has been described as "the most impressive example of Prague Baroque". In the Church is very nice frescos by Jan Lukas Kracker and a fresco inside the 70 m high dome by František Xaver Palko. The interior is decorated with sculptures by František Ignác Platzer.

Prague Castle

Prague Castle is a castle complex in Prague, dating from the 9th century. It is the official residence of the President of the Czech Republic. The Bohemian Crown Jewels are kept within a hidden room inside it. The castle buildings represent every architectural style, Prague Castle includes Gothic St Vitus Cathedral, Romanesque Basilica of St. George, a monastery and several palaces, gardens and defense towers. Most of the castle areas are open to tourists.

The Prague astronomical clock

The Prague astronomical clock, or Prague orloj is a medieval astronomical clock located at Old Town Square . The clock was installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating. 

Wenceslas Square

Wenceslas Square is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia. It is part of the historic centre of Prague.

If you go to school canteens you can choose from daily offer of food.

You can pay by card, by school card (or ISIC card) or in cash. School and ISIC cards work like basic credit cards, you put money on them and then you can pay in school canteens and coffee rooms by these cards.

When you use ISIC card you also have some other benefits elsewhere. For example you have some discounts in KFC or Mc'Donalds, but it's not limited only to food sector. The best school canteen, which is very popular between students is The Studentský dům Canteen. The main reason is great availibility. The Studentský dům Canteen is in the area of schools ČVUT. You can choose from many meals. In the school menu they have soups, specialities of day, main meal, vegetarian food and desserts. Opening hours: Monday – Friday ( 10:30 – 14:30).
